A few common questions.
Does a new range need an anti-tip bracket?
Yes. Safety standards require manufacturers to supply an anti-tip bracket with new gas and electric ranges. It fastens to the wall or floor and stops the range tipping forward, a cause of serious injuries to young children.
Does an electric range come with a power cord?
Often not, and manufacturers advise against reusing the old one. The new cord must match your outlet (3- or 4-prong). Gas ranges usually come with a standard plug. Our team can add a power cord to your estimate.
Can my old gas connector be reused?
No. Manufacturers require a new flexible gas connector with a new range, and an accessible shutoff valve. Gas appliance connections fall under our CSLB C-36 plumbing license, and our team can add a new connector or valve to your estimate.
Does a gas range need electricity?
Yes. Gas ranges have a standard 120-volt plug and need a grounded outlet nearby; some models call for a dedicated circuit.
What does an induction range or cooktop need?
A 240-volt circuit and magnetic cookware. Most induction ranges need a dedicated 240-volt circuit, often 40 amps or more, so switching from gas means electrical work by a licensed electrician. If a magnet sticks to a pan's base, the pan will work.
Will a new wall oven fit my cabinet opening?
Compare the cutout dimensions in the new oven's installation guide with your opening's width, height and depth, measured at the top and bottom. Cutouts vary by brand even for the same width. If the opening doesn't match, our team can modify the cabinet after reviewing your project.
Can a slide-in range replace a freestanding one?
Usually. Slide-in ranges are made for standard 30-inch openings, but some overlap the countertop slightly on each side, so check the installation guide against your countertop.
What's different about a professional-style range?
Bigger supply needs. Pro ranges often call for a 3/4-inch gas line and an accessible shutoff valve; dual-fuel models also need a dedicated 240-volt circuit, which is work for a licensed electrician. Send the model so our team can check your connections.
